MISSION
Our mission is to redefine what it means to be a man through education and training to build healthy communities free from the harms of traditional masculinity.
We do this through men’s work by teaching men and boys to embody healthy masculinity, fully process emotions, embrace authenticity, and show up as compassionate, empathetic community leaders.
Founding Story
Hey Brother Co. was founded because of the turbulent state of men, boys, and masculinity in our modern world. Living in a patriarchal society has created the myth of the self-made man: stoic, self-sufficient, individualistic, all-knowing, physically dominant. However, no man fits that unattainable mold. It’s a harmful narrative that leads to high rates of depression and suicide for men around the globe.
There is a lack of strong communities of men who can express vulnerability. Authentic vulnerability is asking for guidance, support, giving and receiving affirmation, and challenging one another to be better. Global society socializes young boys to suppress their emotions and natural bodily responses to the world, such as crying, which is an essential part of the human experience. This results in generations of men who feel isolated and unloved, are starved for interpersonal connection, lack the ability to regulate their emotions, and don’t know what to do about it.
Hey Brother Co. is here to help. We are a company of men who understand that the way out is in, brotherhood is the medicine, and that you need a strong community of brothers to support your growth and healing. We are here to provide a space, both virtual and physical, for men to learn, heal, grow, and hold one another accountable to becoming the best men we can be. The goal is to create a movement where empowered, healthy men can show up as better partners, fathers, sons, community-members, and leaders.
How are we different?
Many men’s groups and masculinity coaches advocate for a way of living that “unleashes the inner masculine” and respects “the divine feminine.” This is an appealing message for men because it is a familiar one—a repurposing of traditional, binary gender roles. But men don’t fit into only two columns; the world is more dynamic than that. All men deserve the respect, love, and attention that human beings need in order to thrive and fully express themselves, regardless of how “powerful” or “unapologetic” their masculinity is.
Hey Brother Co. prioritizes diversity. We recognize that men are not monolithic, and we all suffer deep wounds from the patriarchy. In order for men to unlearn patriarchal masculinity we must embrace men across intersectional lines in order to effectively deconstruct stigmas of homophobia, transphobia, and other bigotry. Queer men are a welcome and essential part of our organization.
We recognize that patriarchal standards of masculinity harm everyone, particularly women and LGBTQ+ people. We believe in the social, political, and economic equality of women and all marginalized groups, and strive to provide services that reflect this belief. At Hey Brother Co., we seek to respect, believe, and uplift the women in our lives, including trans women.
