Men's Retreat Testimonials ~

Johnny was an amazing facilitator and I can’t wait for the next one! I’ve met an amazing group of men from different walks of life who I now consider close friends. Being in a healthy, growth-oriented community is an important part of life and this retreat has given me and this group of men just that!

— Sharfuz Shifat, Data Scientist and Entrepreneur

The men's retreat was a completely unique experience, unlike anything I've ever done in my life. Vulnerability, emotional expression and regulation, self-reflection, and community building are just a few of the skills and foundations I've taken away from the retreat. These fellas are all like brothers to me now, and for anyone thinking about getting involved, I can't recommend it enough. If you want to better show up for yourself, your partner, and our world — or if you just want to find some new friends — this is the place for you.

— Lewis Kendall, Journalist and Graduate Student

“At the men’s retreat I felt I could be my honest, true self and be seen and heard. I consider the men I met to be lifelong friends who I can always rely on. For anyone that is on the fence or unsure about coming to the retreat, I would 100% recommend it. If you are willing to be open, allow yourself to be present and seen — it will be an experience like no other.

— Spencer Rogers, Business Analyst and High School Boys Rowing Coach

“On our retreat, we watched a documentary, we reflected, meditated, journaled, and had the hard conversations. We also laughed, cried, and played. My favorite part of our time together was cooking communally each night - sharing in the labor of meal preparation creates an unmatched camaraderie. I remember the peaceful aura shared between each of us in our dinner table conversations, the fireside banter under a star-speckled Minnesota sky, and the furrowed brow of each man as we comforted each other in deep, therapeutic discussion. In many ways I felt more authentic during that weekend than I ever have. I left our retreat with new perspective.”

— John Feldkamp, Medical School Student, Poet, and Competitive Powerlifter

“If you are unsure of whether this retreat is right for you, please consider this. Within 72 hours, I had the pleasure of welcoming 7 new lifelong friends into my life. Too often on summertime retreats such as these I think it’s easy to get distracted. But with Hey Brother, there was balance. Unstructured play and bonding, followed by intensive breathwork and inner child reparenting. We quickly learned that it was okay to just be ourselves, and to become comfortable with dropping any kind of mask we’d grown accustomed to wearing. We loved one another for both the permission and insistence that we do so. I learned very quickly that I was not alone, despite thinking I was unique in my struggle. Each and every one of these men said yes to this retreat not quite knowing what to expect, but said yes to the possibility to heal and grow.”

— Owen Schifferli

“Initially I had mixed feelings about attending, but John’s retreat was awesome and I’m glad I took the plunge. We all engaged in fun activities and bonded on a number of different levels. I was surprised at how well I got to know everyone on the retreat with me over a period of just 3 days. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in finding community and/or improving their understanding of self and others to give this retreat a shot.”
